Terminology. Visual elements are referred to as either Tables or Figures. Tables are made up of rows and columns and the cells usually have numbers in them (but may also have words or images). Figures refer to any visual elements—graphs, charts, diagrams, photos, etc .—that are not Tables Figures and tables (display items) are often the quickest way to communicate large amounts of complex information that would be complicated to explain in text. Many readers will only look at your display items without reading the main text of your manuscript. Therefore, ensure your display items can stand alone from the text and communicate clearly. Tables and Figures. Tables and figures enable writers to present a large amount of information efficiently and to make their data more comprehensible. A table usually shows numerical values (e.g., means and standard deviations) and/or textual information (e.g., lists of stimulus words, responses from participants) arranged in columns and rows Tables and figures are generally differentiated visually. Figures include drawings, illustrations, and photos, and tables are compilations of all the data in the form of rows and columns. This is a very general way of understanding the difference between them You have two options for the placement of tables and figures in APA Style: Option 1: Place tables and figures throughout your text, close to the parts of the text that refer to them. Option 2: Place them all together at the end of your text (after the reference list) to avoid breaking up the text. If you place them throughout the text, note that each table or figure should only appear once

  6. Even a small figure or table can take up a lot of space compared to a sentence or two and can unnecessarily interrupt the flow of a paper. If the content is easy to explain in narrative format, or if readers can easily understand it without a visual aid, then presenting it in the text may be preferable to creating a table or a figure (see, for instance, the sample text at the top of p. 127 in.
